About Laura
Laura is an experienced litigator who has spent almost three decades practicing law in her home state of Oregon. Her energetic demeanor and confidence in the courtroom make her a successful trial attorney who is responsive to her clients’ needs. Laura represents corporations, public entities, and individuals in employment law, business and commercial litigation, real property and construction disputes, and trust and estate disputes. She is also passionate about supporting our local nonprofit community and guiding them towards their best path forward, whether that’s by volunteering on a board or being engaged as their legal counsel.
Laura was born in Michigan but has has lived most of her life in this community, except for her time spent living in Italy while earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon and a couple years in Seattle post undergraduate. Laura has two wonderful grown children, and her husband also practices law for the Department of Justice. On weekends, you can often find her relaxing with family and friends or up at the mountain skiing and enjoying the beautiful Oregon scenery.

Representative Cases
Nowland v. Sterling Vision. Laura represented the defendant Sterling Vision in this pregnancy and wage inquiry discrimination case, brought in Lane County Circuit Court. The jury was asked to decide if Sterling Vision had terminated the plaintiff, a former option, either because of her pregnancy or because she asked for a raise. After a five day trial, the jury deliberated for less than 10 minutes before returning a unanimous verdict in favor of Sterling Vision on all claims.
Defended employers against various types of discrimination claims, including claims that an employee was treated differently on the basis of gender, race, or sexual orientation.
Defended employers against “whistleblowing” claims where an employee claimed they were retaliated against for “blowing the whistle” on allegedly wrongful conduct.
